John Wharton’s Will and Inventory
John Wharton made a will on February 23, 1814 (the day of his death),in Philadelphia which was “partly proved on 28 Mar 1814, fully proved on 13 April 1814 & recorded in Acc Co on 26 Apr 1814” with his wife (Elizabeth), brother (Bagwell, who lived south of Wharton Place in Sunderland Hall), and friends Judge Thomas Evans and Thomas Teackle Taylor named as executors. According to this purported will, “[t]he profit & interest of my estate [passes] to my wife Elizabeth Wharton during her natural life & at her death to my heirs at law as if I had died intestate.”
